For Little Havana families, in your language

Little Havana is a close, multigenerational neighborhood. Grandparents, parents and kids often share a home or live a few blocks apart, from the domino tables at Máximo Gómez Park to the shops along Calle Ocho and the Tower Theater. In a dental emergency, the person on the phone might be a grandchild calling for an abuela, or a parent with a crying child in the back seat. Our team speaks Spanish and English, so nobody has to translate under pressure.

Prana is a family practice, so we care for kids, teens and adults, including older patients with dentures, crowns or bridges. If you'd rather read about emergencies in Spanish, see our página de emergencias dentales en español.

A child hurt at the park

Head to the ER instead if your child hit their head, vomits, seems unusually sleepy, or has bleeding that won't slow down.

  • Comfort your child first, then look in the mouth. Rinse gently with water so you can see where any blood is coming from.
  • Press a clean gauze pad or cloth on the bleeding area and hold it for several minutes without lifting it to check.
  • If a baby tooth falls out, don't push it back in. If it's an adult tooth, put it back in the socket if you can, or carry it in milk, touching only the top part.
  • A bag of frozen peas wrapped in a thin towel, held on the cheek, can help with swelling.
  • Call or text us and tell us your child's age, which tooth is hurt and how it happened.

When an older relative needs help

For grandparents, emergencies often look different: a denture that cracks in half, a bridge that comes loose, or a tooth that has hurt quietly for months until the face starts to swell. Don't glue a broken denture at home, because the fit can change and rub sores into the gums. Put the pieces in a bag and bring them along. For a toothache, a warm water rinse and an over-the-counter pain reliever taken as the label directs can help until the visit. Avoid putting aspirin or homemade remedies directly on the gum, which can irritate it.

Swelling in the face, especially with a fever, needs attention quickly. If it spreads or makes swallowing or breathing hard, go to the ER right away.

Serious injuries

Prana Dental is open. On, the ER remains the place for facial trauma, heavy bleeding, fever with swelling, or any difficulty breathing or swallowing.

The visit and the cost

Dr. Rana, a general dentist, examines the problem and explains it clearly, and our bilingual team makes sure everyone in the room understands the plan. Before any treatment, the cost is written down for you. Depending on what he finds, care might be a filling, a crown, a root canal, a denture repair or an extraction, and for complex cases Dr. Rana refers patients to an oral surgeon. Oral sedation is available for anyone who is anxious.

Most major dental insurance plans are accepted, and our bilingual team checks your benefits for you. For costs that aren't covered, 0% financing is available on approved credit through CareCredit, Cherry and LendingClub.

If a lost tooth needs replacing later, read about dental implants for Little Havana (a single implant from $1,999) or All-on-4® for Little Havana, a fixed full-arch option from $9,999 per arch for people tired of loose dentures. For front teeth, there are also veneers for Little Havana. Those start with a free first visit: exam, 3D scan and smile preview.

Getting here from Little Havana

Most drives take about 15 to 25 minutes, depending on traffic. One route is I-95 north to I-195 east, then Biscayne Blvd south a few blocks to NE 30th Street. The other is SW 8th Street east toward downtown, then north on Biscayne Blvd. Prana Dental is at 3050 Biscayne Blvd, Suite 703, and you can park in the building or on the street.

Without a car, Metrobus routes run along Biscayne Blvd (check the GO Miami-Dade Transit app for current routes and times), and a rideshare can drop you at the building on Biscayne. Metromover doesn't reach Edgewater. For people who live near the office, there is also our Edgewater emergency guide.

Questions, answered

Can I call in Spanish about a dental emergency?

Yes. The team is bilingual in English and Spanish by phone, text and WhatsApp at (786) 579-0521. Describe the problem in whichever language is easier for you.

My grandmother's denture broke. Can she be seen the same day?

Same-day appointments are available Monday to Saturday when you call or text first. Bring all the pieces and don't glue them. Dr. Rana will check her gums and talk through repair or replacement.

How long is the drive from Calle Ocho to Prana Dental?

Usually about 15 to 25 minutes, depending on traffic. You can take I-95 north to I-195 east and Biscayne Blvd, or SW 8th Street east toward downtown and then north on Biscayne.

My son knocked out a tooth playing at the park. What do I do?

If it's a baby tooth, don't put it back; stop the bleeding with gauze and call us. If it's an adult tooth, hold it by the top, rinse it briefly, and put it back or keep it in milk, then come in as fast as possible. A head injury means the ER first.

Do I need insurance to be seen for an emergency?

No. We accept most major dental insurance and check your benefits for you, and if you don't have coverage you can ask about 0% financing on approved credit. Either way, the cost is confirmed in writing before treatment.
