What counts as a dental emergency
Situations that generally warrant an emergency visit include a knocked-out or badly loosened tooth, a broken tooth with pain or a sharp edge, a lost crown or filling causing pain or sensitivity, facial or gum swelling, or pain severe enough to disrupt sleep or daily function. Ongoing mild sensitivity or a chipped tooth with no pain can usually wait for a regular appointment, but when in doubt, it's better to call and describe the situation to someone who can actually assess it than to guess and wait it out at home hoping it resolves on its own, since some problems get harder and more expensive to treat the longer they're left alone.
