Family dentist for kids in Miami,
gentle from the very first visit.

Finding the right kids dentist in Miami means finding someone patient, honest and calm enough that your child actually wants to come back. Dr. Aakash Rana and our bilingual team see kids, teens and parents together, in the same relaxed, judgment-free space.

A family dentist who treats kids and teens

Prana is a family practice: Dr. Rana treats kids, teens, parents and grandparents, often in the same visit. That means your child sees the same dentist as the rest of the family, in a setting they're already familiar with, rather than being sent somewhere separate for routine care. It also means fewer new faces and fewer new waiting rooms: once your child knows our office, checkups and cleanings become a normal part of the routine instead of something to dread.

Kids dentist vs. pediatric dentist: what's the difference

If you've searched for a pediatric dentist in Miami, it's worth knowing the difference. A board-certified pediatric dentist completes additional specialty training focused entirely on infants, children and patients with special needs. Dr. Rana is a general (family) dentist who sees patients of all ages, including children, for routine and general dental care.

For most kids, that's exactly the right fit — the same gentle, unhurried approach we use with adults, adapted for a child's comfort and attention span. When a child needs specialist-level care, such as significant special needs or a complex case beyond routine treatment, we'll refer to a board-certified pediatric dentist so your child gets the right level of care. We're upfront about this distinction because it matters for your child's care, and we'd rather send you to the right specialist than take on a case outside what a general dentist should handle.

Your child's first dental visit

The ADA and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommend a first dental visit by a child's first birthday, or within six months of the first tooth coming in, whichever comes first. That first visit is mostly about getting your child comfortable in the chair and giving us a chance to check early development, not about intensive treatment. Getting your child used to the sounds, the chair and the team early on tends to make every visit afterward easier, which is really the main goal of that first appointment.

Our guide to your child's first dental visit covers what to expect and how to prepare your child beforehand.

Cleanings, sealants and fluoride

Regular cleanings are just as important for kids as adults, helping catch small issues before they grow. Dental sealants and fluoride treatments are commonly recommended preventive options for children's back teeth and developing enamel, and Dr. Rana will let you know if they make sense for your child based on their specific teeth. We also talk with parents about brushing habits, diet and thumb-sucking or pacifier use, since those everyday habits affect a child's dental development as much as anything that happens in our chair.

Cavities and gentle treatment

Cavities are common in childhood, and finding one isn't cause for alarm. If your child needs a filling, we explain what's happening in age-appropriate terms and keep treatment as calm and quick as possible. We also talk with you about prevention going forward, since one cavity is often a sign it's worth adjusting brushing habits or snacking patterns at home.

Bilingual and family-friendly

Our team is fully bilingual in English and Spanish, so kids and parents can ask questions comfortably in either language. Many families book back-to-back appointments so parents and kids are seen in the same trip, and our general dentistry care covers everyone in the household under one roof. Explanations of a diagnosis or a treatment plan are available in either language, so nothing gets lost for your family.

Scheduling and hours

We're open Monday through Saturday, 8AM to 8PM, so Saturday appointments are easy to fit around school. New patients start with a free first-visit consult — visit our new patient page to see what to bring. If your child has a dental emergency, walk-ins are welcome during business hours and our emergency dental page has more on what to do.

Questions, answered

At what age should my child first see the dentist?

The ADA and AAPD recommend a first visit by your child's first birthday or within six months of their first tooth coming in, whichever happens first.

Is Dr. Rana a pediatric dentist?

Dr. Rana is a general (family) dentist who sees patients of all ages, including children. He is not a board-certified pediatric dentist specialist. For children who need specialist-level care, such as significant special needs or complex cases, we refer to a board-certified pediatric dentist.

Do you treat both kids and adults at the same practice?

Yes. Prana is a family practice, and many parents book their own appointment back-to-back with their child's visit so the whole family is seen in one trip.

Are sealants and fluoride necessary for my child?

They're commonly recommended preventive options for children's teeth, but not every child needs them. Dr. Rana will let you know if they're a good fit based on your child's specific teeth and risk of cavities.

What if my child is scared of the dentist?

That's common, and our team is used to it. We keep first visits low-pressure and go at your child's pace, explaining each step before we do it so nothing feels sudden.

Do you have Saturday appointments for kids?

Yes, we're open Monday through Saturday, 8AM to 8PM, which makes it easier to schedule around school and activities.
