Emergency dentist near Miami Beach,
one causeway away.

Prana Dental is an emergency dentist near Miami Beach, just off the Julia Tuttle Causeway in Edgewater, with same-day appointments. Visitors, hotel and restaurant teams, and full-time residents can call or text (786) 579-0521 first for a time Monday to Saturday, 8am to 8pm.

Visitors, hospitality crews and beach days

Miami Beach has two populations living side by side: people on vacation, and people who make the vacation happen. Visitors who break a tooth far from their home dentist often don't know where to start, and hotel, restaurant and nightlife staff work shifts that swing from early mornings to well past midnight. Residents add their own mix of beach days, cycling, volleyball, paddleboarding and pickup games.

You don't need records from home or an existing file with us to be seen. Bring a list of the medications you take and whatever you know about the tooth's history, such as a recent crown or root canal.

Hurt at the beach or on the boardwalk

For hotel and restaurant staff mid-shift, a lost crown or broken filling can usually be protected with pharmacy dental wax or temporary filling material until the next morning. A toothache with swelling, though, shouldn't wait out a double shift.

  • Rinse with bottled or tap water, not seawater, to clear sand from the area.
  • If a tooth is knocked out, pick it up by the crown, rinse the sand off briefly with clean water, and either ease it back into the socket or keep it in a cup of milk. An adult can also hold it inside the cheek if there's no milk nearby, as long as there's no risk of swallowing it.
  • Press clean gauze or a folded cloth on any bleeding spot and hold steady pressure.
  • Get out of the sun and hold ice or a cold bottle wrapped in a towel against the cheek for swelling.
  • If a board or ball hit your face and your jaw clicks, won't close properly, or part of your face feels numb, go to the ER instead of a dental office.

If it's more serious than a tooth

Once we're open, choose the ER for a facial injury from a fall or collision, heavy bleeding, a fever, or swelling that makes it hard to breathe or swallow.

Getting here from Miami Beach

The Julia Tuttle Causeway (I-195) comes off near NE 36th Street and Biscayne Blvd, a few blocks north of the office, so the trip from Mid-Beach or North Beach is often about 10 to 15 minutes, depending on traffic. From there, head south on Biscayne Blvd to NE 30th Street.

From South Beach, plan on about 15 to 20 minutes. Take the MacArthur Causeway (I-395) west and then go north on Biscayne Blvd, or use the Venetian Causeway, a toll road that lands near NE 15th Street, and continue north on Biscayne.

Once you're on the boulevard, look for 3050 Biscayne Blvd, Suite 703; there is parking in the building and on the street. If you're staying at a hotel without a car, a rideshare to the drop-off on Biscayne Blvd is often simplest. Metrobus routes also run along Biscayne Blvd; the GO Miami-Dade Transit app has current routes and times.

What to expect, and paying for it

Dr. Rana, a general dentist trained at NYU College of Dentistry, examines the tooth, explains in plain terms what happened, and tells you what can be done now. If you're flying home soon, mention it: the plan can focus on stabilizing the tooth and getting you comfortable so your own dentist can finish the work, or on completing it here if time allows. Costs are confirmed in writing before treatment starts, and our team speaks English and Spanish.

If you have dental insurance from another state, bring the card; most major dental insurance is accepted, and we check your benefits for you. Financing at 0% is also available on approved credit through CareCredit, Cherry and LendingClub.

For locals, an injured tooth sometimes leads to a longer conversation. Our dental implants page for Miami Beach covers single-tooth replacement from $1,999, and All-on-4® for Miami Beach covers full-arch care. Cosmetic repairs are discussed in our Miami Beach cosmetic consult post. Each of those starts with a free first visit: exam, 3D scan and smile preview.

Our Miami Beach page has more on the trip, and the Edgewater emergency guide covers the neighborhood around the office.

Questions, answered

I'm visiting Miami Beach and broke a tooth. Can a dentist see me?

Yes. Prana Dental offers same-day appointments to visitors as well as locals, Monday to Saturday, 8am to 8pm. Reach us at (786) 579-0521 by call or text before you come; no local records are needed.

Which causeway is fastest from South Beach to Edgewater?

It depends on traffic. The MacArthur Causeway (I-395) and the Venetian Causeway, a toll road, both bring you onto the mainland south of us, and the trip usually runs about 15 to 20 minutes. From Mid-Beach or North Beach, the Julia Tuttle Causeway is closer and lands a few blocks north of the office.

I work hotel shifts on the Beach. Can I fit a visit around them?

Appointments run Monday to Saturday from 8am to 8pm, so there is usually a window before or after a shift. Call or text with your schedule; coming off an overnight, a morning slot can save you a second trip across the causeway.

What should I do if I knock out a tooth at the beach?

Find the tooth, hold it by the crown, rinse off the sand with clean water (not seawater), and put it back in the socket or in milk. Then get to a dentist as quickly as you can, since timing matters for saving it. If there is a head injury or heavy bleeding, go to the ER.

Do you see kids who get hurt on vacation?

Yes. Prana is a family practice that treats kids, teens and adults. If a child injures a baby tooth, don't put it back in; keep them comfortable and call or text us.
