Finding a dentist that accepts insurance in Miami:
a plain-English guide.
By Dr. Aakash Rana, DDS · Updated September 2026 · 6 min read
Short answer: Before you book, give the office your plan name, your member ID and the network name on your card, then confirm with your insurer. Prana Dental accepts most major dental insurance: call
(786) 579-0521 with your plan and we'll check your benefits before you come in. Your first visit is free.
Finding a dentist that accepts insurance in Miami sounds simple until you're staring at a plan booklet full of unfamiliar terms. This guide explains how to confirm a dentist is in-network, what dental insurance usually covers, and what your options are if you don't have a plan at all.
How do you check if a dentist is in-network?
A dentist's website saying "we accept insurance" is a starting point, not a guarantee that your specific plan is covered. Dental plans come in many versions, even under the same insurance company, and a dentist can be in-network for one version and not another. The most reliable way to check takes about ten minutes and three pieces of information from your insurance card:
- The plan name (for example, the specific product printed on the card, not just the company name)
- Your member ID and, if listed, the group number
- The network name, which is often printed in small type on the back of the card
What should you ask the dental office?
Call the office and read those three details to the front desk. Then ask a few direct questions so there are no surprises later:
Is the practice in-network with my plan and my network? Can you check my benefits before my appointment? What will my estimated cost be for the exam and any treatment we discuss? Ask for the estimate in writing whenever a treatment is recommended.
Finally, verify with your insurer. Call the number on your card or log in to your member portal and confirm the dentist's status yourself. Offices work hard to be accurate, but only your insurer can tell you exactly what your plan pays. If you'd like us to do the legwork, that's what our team is here for: call (786) 579-0521 with your plan details and we'll look into your benefits before you come in.
What does dental insurance typically cover?
Every plan is different, so treat the following as general guidance and check your own plan documents. Most dental plans sort care into three tiers, and each tier has its own share of the cost that you pay.
- Preventive care: Routine exams, X-rays and teeth cleanings are typically covered at the highest level, and many plans cover them at or near 100% when you use an in-network dentist. Plans usually limit how often, commonly two cleanings per year.
- Basic care: Fillings and simple repairs usually fall here. Plans often pay a larger share than for major work, but you may owe a percentage after your deductible.
- Major care: Crowns, bridges and dentures are usually in this tier, where the plan pays a smaller share and your out-of-pocket cost is higher. Many plans do not cover cosmetic treatments at all.
Which insurance terms matter most?
A few terms explain most of the surprises people run into with dental bills:
- Annual maximum: the most your plan will pay in a benefit year. Many dental plans have a relatively low cap, so a large treatment plan can use it up quickly.
- Deductible: what you pay before the plan starts sharing costs for certain services. Preventive care often skips the deductible.
- Waiting period: some plans make you wait a number of months before covering basic or major work, even though preventive care may start right away.
- In-network vs. out-of-network: in-network dentists agree to set fees with your insurer. Out-of-network care can still be partly covered, but you may pay more and be balance-billed for the difference.
- Pre-treatment estimate: for larger work, a dentist can often submit a plan to your insurer first so you see what they expect to pay.
What if you don't have dental insurance?
Plenty of people in Miami go without a plan, and it is still possible to get good care at a predictable cost. Start by asking for a written quote before any treatment begins. A good written plan lists each procedure, each fee, and the order of treatment, so you can compare it, pace it over time, or ask questions before you commit. At Prana Dental, exact prices are confirmed in writing at your consult; you can see starting prices on our pricing page.
If cost is the main barrier, look into monthly payment options. We offer 0% financing on approved credit through CareCredit, Cherry and LendingClub, with payments starting from $167 a month. Approval and terms depend on your credit, and the details are on our financing page. Spreading a treatment across monthly payments can make the difference between putting something off and getting it done.
How does Prana Dental work with insurance?
Prana Dental is a family practice on Biscayne Blvd in Edgewater, seeing kids, teens and adults. We accept most major dental insurance. Because plans vary so much, we don't guess: when you call (786) 579-0521 with your plan name and member ID, we'll check your benefits before you come in, so you know what to expect at the front desk.
New patients also get a free first visit, a consult worth $700 that includes an exam, a 3D scan, a digital smile preview and a written treatment plan. That means you can see the full picture, and the estimated cost, before deciding on anything. Read more on our new patient page. Not sure how to compare offices in general? Our guide on how to choose a dentist in Miami walks through what to look for beyond insurance.
What's the simplest way to get started?
Grab your insurance card, note the plan name, member ID and network, and call us or message us on WhatsApp. If you'd rather not deal with insurance at all for your first visit, the free consult still gives you a clear written plan. We're open Monday to Saturday, 8AM to 8PM, at 3050 Biscayne Blvd, Suite 703, with parking nearby.
