5 signs you need full-mouth reconstruction, not just another filling

Short answer: If several teeth are worn down, broken, missing or causing jaw pain at the same time, fixing them one at a time often costs more and lasts less than treating the whole mouth as one coordinated plan.

Most dental problems are genuinely fine to fix one at a time. But a specific pattern of symptoms usually means the underlying bite, not any single tooth, is the actual problem — and patching individual teeth just delays a bigger conversation. Here's what that pattern looks like.

1. You've had the same tooth fixed more than once

A filling or crown that keeps failing on the same tooth is often a symptom, not the diagnosis. If your bite is putting uneven force on that tooth, replacing the restoration again just repeats the failure.

2. Your bite feels "off," or your jaw aches

A worn or collapsed bite, often from years of grinding, missing teeth, or old dental work that no longer fits together correctly, shows up as jaw soreness, headaches, or a sense that your teeth don't meet the way they used to.

3. Multiple teeth are broken, missing or heavily worn at once

Fixing teeth one at a time when several are failing together usually looks mismatched and doesn't address why they're failing in the first place. A coordinated plan treats the mouth as one system.

4. You avoid smiling, or avoid certain foods

When function and confidence are both affected at the same time, it's a signal the issue has moved past a single cosmetic fix and into how your whole mouth works day to day.

5. You've been quoted several separate procedures that don't add up to a plan

A string of individual quotes for individual teeth, with no single plan tying them together, is a common warning sign. Full-mouth reconstruction means one written, coordinated plan instead.

How long a full-mouth plan actually takes

Timelines vary widely by case: some plans finish over a few visits across a couple of months, while more involved cases combining extractions, grafting or a full-arch rebuild can span several months of healing between phases. Your written plan lays out the phases and rough timeline up front, so there are no surprises about how long the process will take.

How we build your plan

Your free consult includes a 3D scan and a digital smile preview so you see the plan before committing to it. Depending on your mouth, that plan might combine crowns, veneers, implants, or a full-arch solution like All-on-4 — built around your scan, not a template.
